How to block telemarketing calls?

Must-Know Cell Phone Tricks - Part B

A few more advanced cell phone tricks:

  1. Thwart That Thief: If your cell phone is ever stolen, you may very well never see it again, but you can at least protect yourself by remotely disabling your device.

Make sure you have written down in a safe place (and not just stored on your cell phone) your device’s serial number. If you can’t find it yourself, just key into your cell phone * # 0 6 # and you’ll see on your display screen the 15-digit code you’ll need to give to the wireless representative who answers your call when you call to report your phone stolen.

With this number, your wireless carrier can block your device so that, even if the pilferer swaps out the SIM card, you cell phone will still prove useless to them.

Just think if everyone who owned a cell phone did this, there’d be no more reason for thieves to steal cell phones anymore.

  2. Free 411: Directory information charges add up, and they add up fast. Stop paying a dollar and more to obtain directory information through your cell phone. Just dial any of the following phone number and get that same info at no cost to you whatsoever (at least none above and beyond your normal charges, if any, for minutes used).

    1-800-FREE-411 (1-800-373-3411)

Better yet, program this number into your phone’s contacts or even speed dial.

Similarly, you can dial 1-888-FRU-CALL the next time you’re in a retail store and do a little mobile comparison shopping. Just key in the bar code on the product you’re considering buying and your phone will produce the details on the item you’re looking at and the prices different online sellers are commanding for it. This call and service, too, is free.

Lastly, you can also send a text message to GOOGL (46645) and enter in any search query, just like you would if you Googled that same search in your web browser. Google will immediately text message you back with your search results.

There are many savvy ways you can use your cell phone for more than placing a call. These are just a few. But they only scratch the surface of the mountain of functions and capabilities now available to absolutely anyone who owns a cell phone.
